Impressive 'Boro Beat Leaders for Third Win in Five
Middlesbrough returned to winning ways with a fine performance against EFL Championship leaders Leicester at the Riverside.
The Vertu Motors-backed side had failed to win the previous two league games after a loss to Stoke and an action-packed draw at Plymouth, and went into the game looking to try and consign the league leaders to a second successive defeat.
Both sides had chances to hit the front in the first half but heading into the closing stages of what proved to be a closely-fought game, it appeared that the two teams may be forced to settle for a point apiece in the final encounter before the international break.
However, with seven minutes left on the clock, ‘Boro were awarded a free kick after a foul on Sam Greenword by Hamza Choudhury 25 yards from goal – teeing up the chance to try and grab a winner.
Greenwood himself stepped up to take the free kick, and a stunning effort left goalkeeper Mads Hermansen with no chance as the ball flew into the top corner to secure all three points.
The victory means that, despite a difficult start to the season, Middlesbrough now sit tenth in the standings and are just two points off the top six ahead of a game with Bristol City after the internationals have taken place.
