Honda Civic racers Neal and Sheddon protect past wins

Honda Racing Team drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden plan to protect their past wins and reign at this weekend's Brands Hatch round, even though they are well on track to win the championship.

They are currently both leading the drivers' standings in the Honda Civic and there are only six races to go before the winner of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is named.

The pair will race at Brands Hatch near Swanley in Kent with an extra 20 kilograms of ballast in their vehicles, making it an even harder challenge to win.

However, their Honda Civic models will help them get around the 2.6-mile track, which is one of the most challenging and best-loved circuits on the touring car schedule, despite the penalty.

Gordon Sheddon said that the Civic is a good all-round car. He admitted that the only reason the pair are still in the fight to win the title is because the Honda Civic "has such a great chassis" that can cope with the extra weight.

The first race starts on October 2nd.
