What do I need to sell my car?

Decided to sell your car at Vertu? Fantastic! To make sure you are prepared for your appointment, view our helpful checklist of things to bring to your appointment.

This gives you complete peace of mind on the day, knowing you have everything you need for completion.

What to bring to your appointment

Please make sure to bring the following with you to your appointment:

  • Vehicle registration logbook (V5C)
  • Your driving licence
  • Proof of address (dated within the last six months)
  • Your bank details (for processing the payment)
  • Both sets of keys for the car (if applicable)
  • Your servicing and MOT records (including any receipts for repairs/parts)
  • The user manual
  • Finance settlement letter (if this applies)
  • A V317 number plate retention form (if transferring a private reg plate)

The V5C logbook

This is the most important document needed to sell your car. The V5C is what you will use to transfer the vehicle’s registration over to the new owner. If you no longer have it, you will need to order a new one here.

Service and MOT records

Having a full service and MOT history is what makes your car more valuable. The new owner will need all of this information to ensure the vehicle continues to be properly cared for.

Finance settlement letter

If you purchased the car under a finance plan, you will need to bring a valid settlement letter with you. This should detail the final settlement figure and your finance company’s contact information.

V317 form

If you are transferring a private registration plate you will need to fill out and bring a V317 form. These can be downloaded online from the Government’s website and allow you to either transfer it to a new vehicle or retain it for up to 10 years.

What happens on the day?

On the day of your appointment, our expert team will ask you to take a seat while they sort through all of the paperwork. They will also check the condition of your vehicle matches what you have described.

Next, they will process your payment. This should arrive in your account via bank transfer within 3-5 working days. Your appointment should take no more than one hour before you are on your way. If you have any questions about your appointment, feel free to get in touch. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you!
