Say Hello To The Most Powerful Volkswagen Golf GTI - EVER

Volkswagen has revealed a new, limited edition version of the Golf GTI to celebrate 50 years of the popular hot hatch.

The Golf GTI Edition 50 will enter production later this year ahead of customer deliveries getting underway in the first quarter of 2026 in line with the anniversary celebrations.

The car will be a fitted with the same 2.0 litre turbocharged engine as found in the GTI Clubsport but with an increase of 25bhp and more torque, whilst it will have a full 60bhp more than the standard Golf GTI.

Extensive work has been carried out on the chassis of the Golf GTI Edition 50 to deal with the extra power with an option GTI Performance package also available.

“For 50 years, the GTI has stood for more than just performance, precision and driving pleasure at Volkswagen: it is a way of life that unites our fans all over the world – and an essential element of what makes us so strong as a brand,” says Thomas Schafer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said.

“With the fastest and most powerful production model to date, we are celebrating half a century of GTI passion. One thing is for sure: GTI will naturally live on in the future – without any compromises.”

To show the potential of the Golf GTI Edition 50, professional racing driver Benjamin Leuchter – a race winner in the TCR-spec version of the Golf GTI – completed a lap of the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:46.13s, which marked the fastest ever lap of the circuit by a production Golf.

“For me, the Golf GTI Edition 50 is the most precise and sporty Volkswagen I’ve ever driven,” Leuchter said.

“It reminds me a lot of the Golf GTI Clubsport S from 2016. However, the Golf GTI Edition 50 has been systematically enhanced once again. Because it’s so intuitive and precise, I have a lot of confidence in the car and can really push it to the limit.”
