Audi has confirmed the addition of a plug-in hybrid to the range of the new A6, which will provide drivers with more than 60 miles of electric motoring.

Following the launch of the A6 e-tron last year, and the reveal of new petrol and diesel-powered versions of the car last month, Audi has now confirmed that the A6 will go on sale as a hybrid in June ahead of deliveries starting in September.

The A6 e-hybrid quattro will start at £60,980 and will be available as both a saloon and an estate. Three different specifications of both variant - Sport, S Line and Edition 1 - have been confirmed, all of which will combine a 2.0 TFSI engine with a high-voltage battery to give power output of 295bhp.

That battery can be recharged from empty in as little as 2.5 hours, with the car capable of running in either full EV or hybrid modes. Regenerative braking performance has been improved to help maximise battery performance.

All-wheel steering is fitted as standard across the hybrid range, which improves agility in traffic by moving in the opposite direction at speeds of up to 37mph. At higher speeds, the wheels move in the same direction to provide improved handling.
