Birmingham City enter 2025 sitting pretty in the automatic promotion spots in EFL League One after an unbeaten run across the Christmas fixtures.

The Vertu-backed side was top of the table going into the festive games, which kicked off with a home tie against Burton Albion at St Andrew's.

The Blues grabbed the lead in the first half when Keshi Anderson was fouled in the box and Jay Stansfield extended his rich run of form in front of goal by smashing home the penalty for 14th goal of the season.

Max Crocombe then put through his own net after the break to wrap up the points, although a run of eight straight wins would then be ended a handful of days later when Blackpool arrived in town.

The visitors - managed by former Birmingham boss Steve Bruce - had chances to take the lead despite the Blues having more of the ball, but the game would end as a goalless draw.

Of greater concern was an injury to Lee Buchanan that saw him stretchered off the pitch early on, and which will see him miss the remainder of the season.

New Years Day saw a further draw, this time on the road at Stockport County. Alfie May opened the scoring after five minutes to put Birmingham in front but a second half equaliser from Macauley Southam-Hales meant the points were shared at Edgeley Park.

That draw meant Birmingham slipped to second in the table behind Wycombe on goal difference, albeit with a game in hand.

January includes a third round FA Cup tie at home to Lincoln City, as well as a trip to Swindon Town in the Vertu Trophy.
