BMW has been awarded the Car of the Year at the annual TopGear.com awards after the all-electric iX3 walked away with the top honour.
The iX3 joins the 5 Series (1995) and the i8 (2014) in taking the award for BMW, and is the third successive EV to come out on top after the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and the Renault 5.
Judges praised the iX3 – which is part of BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ – for both its design and driving dynamics, referring to the way in which is ‘drives like a BMW ought to’.
The fact that the car also offers more than 500 miles of range helped it to come out on top against the opposition.
“The launch of the new BMW iX3 represents more than just the debut of an exceptional new model – it signals the start of an exciting and transformative chapter for our brand,” BMW Group UK CEO David George said.
“We are thrilled to receive the prestigious Car of the Year award for this milestone moment and would like to thank the entire Top Gear team for this special recognition.”
