CUPRA has announced the launch of its most powerful version of the Leon, which will be limited to just 499 units.

The Leon VZ TCR is inspired by the touring car of the same name that competes on race circuits around the globe, securing championship honours this year in TCR Europe and TCR UK, and scoring race wins in the TCR World Tour and the US-based IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

The road-going Leon VZ TCR will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbo-charged engine that develops more than 320bhp and comes complete with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.

An electronically controlled front differential lock helps to control that power when on the road and helps the Leon VZ TCR to hit 62mph in just 5.6 seconds, with CUPRA only stating that the top speed is ‘unrestricted’.

Adapative chassis control helps to improve handling over the standard Leon, whilst excess weight has also been removed, which includes making the rear seats removable to turn the car into a two-seater.

Exterior design tweaks include lightweight alloy wheels, rear spoiler and both front and rear splitter.

"The CUPRA Leon VZ TCR is a bold expression of what happens when racing meets road-going precision,” Dr. Werner Tietz VP of R&D at CUPRA said.

“Born from the track and crafted for the street, this limited edition captures CUPRA’s drive for performance, individuality, and the thrill of pushing limits.”

The Leon VZ TCR is due to be launched in late 2026, with a toned down version of the car – the Leon VZ – arriving beforehand.
