Nissan has picked up two prizes at the Motor Awards 2025 organised by News UK, with the all-new LEAF and the latest version of the Qashqai e-POWER both being recognised.

The awards are given out on an annual basis with the judging panel comprising of Rob Gill, Motors Editor at The Sun, Nick Rufford, Assistant Editor at The Sunday Times, and Will Dron, Digital Driving Editor at The Times.

The new LEAF, which is due to hit showrooms early next year, was named as the Sun’s Car of the Year, whilst the Qashqai took the award for best hybrid model.

The third generation LEAF will be built in Sunderland and potential buyers will be able to explore the car up close ahead of it being launched thanks to a series of Electric Encounters Live events, which will take place at various Vertu dealerships in the coming months.

The new Qashqai e-POWER meanwhile is the ideal option for those looking for a family car but who aren’t quite ready to make the switch to electric, with the innovative powertrain offering an EV-like driving experience but with the convenience of still utilising petrol – which powers the generator that produces electricity to run the car.

“We’re absolutely thrilled the All-New Nissan LEAF has been recognised as The Sun’s Car of the Year,” Nissan GB managing director James Taylor, said. “As the brand’s newest 100% electric model and most aerodynamic production car to date, it showcases the latest Nissan technology and engineering know-how and, of course, follows in the footsteps of the groundbreaking original LEAF, the world’s first mainstream electric car.

“We’re also tremendously proud that Qashqai with New e-POWER has been named Hybrid Car of the Year for a second consecutive year. It’s recently been updated with an all-new, third-generation e-POWER system and delivers the best of all worlds: the responsive refinement of an EV, the convenience of petrol and the range of a diesel car.

“Even better, both Qashqai and the LEAF represent the best of British: engineered and built right here in the UK.”
