Pricing for the UK-specification Mazda 6e electric saloon has been confirmed, along with a major update to the model’s battery line-up prior to sale.
The new model – which represents the only all-electric model in Mazda’s line-up until the arrival of the Mazda CX-6e SUV – signals a return for the ‘6’ nameplate having been absent from the firm’s range for a couple of years now.
As well as returning as an electric-only model, the Mazda 6e has been taken upmarket to act as a direct rival for the likes of the BMW i4, BYD Seal and Polestar 2.
Despite its premium transformation, the Mazda 6e undercuts all three rivals with a competitive starting price £38,995 for the entry Takumi trim level, while the top spec Takumi Plus comes in at £39,995.
Significantly, however, UK-specification models will differ from versions on the continent with the introduction of a 78kWh battery, which comes in lieu of either a 68.8kWh or 80kWh battery as offered in other European markets.
The new 78kWh battery offers more range than either of the aforementioned units at 348-miles, which places the 6e comfortably in line with more expensive rivals.
The 6e also has rivals licked for outright size, proving longer and wider than a Hyundai IONIQ 6, which allows for a spacious interior and a 330-litre boot.
Based on the Chinese-market Changan Deepal SL03, Mazda has nonetheless had major input into the final version of the 6e, endowing it with 50:50 weight distribution and revised suspension to live up to the Japanese firm’s reputation for balanced handling models.
The first Mazda 6e cars will arrive in Vertu Mazda dealerships in the summer, before the CX-6e – revealed at the Brussels Motor Show – follows in early 2027.
