Facelifted Vauxhall Astra: Hybrid, PHEV, EV to be Same Price

Vauxhall has announced a unique pricing structure for its facelifted Vauxhall Astra small family car by confirming it will offer parity across hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric models for each trim level.

Not only that, the larger Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer estate will go on sale at the same price as the standard hatchback.

With prices for the updated range starting at £29,995 OTR for the Griffin trim, it means you can choose between either the hatchback or Sports Tourer, then decide if you want hybrid, PHEV or electric power with no premium to pay.

The price parity policy is the same across each of the Astra’s three trim levels, which also includes the mid-range GS, which costs £31,495, and the flagship Ultimate, priced at £33,995.

The bold strategy will go a long way to making the Astra – one of the UK’s longest-serving nameplates – an even more attractive proposition in a competitive market space encroached by myriad SUVs, not to mention direct rivals like the Kia K4, Peugeot 308 and recently unveiled Dacia Striker.

2026 Vauxhall Astra: What’s New?

As well as being excellent value, the revised pricing coincides with a major mid-life cycle update for the eighth-generation model.

New-for-2026 is a smoother rendition of the Astra’s bold ‘Vizor’ family face, which includes a new illuminated griffin badge and a reprofiled front bumper. Ultimate trim models also get Intelli-Lux HD lighting, which comprises more than 50,000 elements designed to eradicate glare and reduce intensity for oncoming drivers, without impacting their effectiveness for the driver.

Each trim also gets freshly styled alloy wheels:

  • Griffin: 17-inch diamond-cut Noir Onyx ‘Kaddett’ alloys
  • GS: 18-inch Pentagon alloys
  • Ultimate: 18-inch Pentagon diamond-cut wheels
  • Astra Electric: 18-inch diamond-cut Rekord alloy wheels

Inside, the interior has been tweaked to be more ergonomic with the return of easy-to-use physical controls for key functions.

Equipment is also more generous than before with the Griffin getting integrated satellite-navigation alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, while GS models get sporty aesthetic tweaks, sports seats, dual-zone climate control and a 180-degree reversing camera.

As well as Intelli-Lux headlights, the flagship Ultimate also gets a heads-up display, wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate and heated/massaging front seats.

2026 Vauxhall Astra: Electric, PHEV or Hybrid?

The Astra’s price parity across three different powertrain options represents a unique and enticing proposition that belies the notion that electric power – with its lower running costs - should command a upfront premium over PHEV and hybrid versions.

Better yet, the Vauxhall Astra Electric gets a new 58kWh battery, which will deliver 282-miles of range – an increase of 22-miles on the outgoing model. It also gets vehicle-to-load functionality for the first time to allow drivers to charge devices using the power from the Vauxhall’s battery.

Opt for the identically priced Astra PHEV and you’ll get a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a 17.2kWh battery producing 196bhp. It comes with electric-only range of 52-miles.

The 1.6-litre Hybrid 145 gets a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine generating 145bhp, plus a 48V motor allowing for stop-start functionality. A standard petrol engine will rejoin the range further down the line, presumably reducing the entry-level price of the Astra line-up.

Deciding which powertrain to buy will have an impact on the amount of boot space available in the Astra.

The hybrid model offers a 422-litre boot, while the PHEV has 310-litres and the full-electric has 352-litres.

It will be possible to counter this reduction on boot space by choosing the more practical Astra Sports Tourer, which is also unusually listed with the same price at each trim level as the hatchback.

In its largest guise, the Astra Sports Tourer has a mammoth 597-litre boot.
