Ford's diesel engine will be 'star' at EcoVelocity

Ford's latest 1.6-litre diesel engine, described by the firm as "frugal and versatile", will be the "star of the show" at the forthcoming EcoVelocity event in London.

The Blue Oval hopes the event will highlight the eco credentials of the UK-built turbo diesel commonrail injection powerplant, which was developed at the firm's wind-powered diesel centre in Dagenham.

According to the firm, when placed in its Mondeo, the engine produces just 114g CO/km, while offering drivers a range of 65.6 miles per gallon.

Andy Barratt, Ford Britain sales director, said: "Ford has an outstanding low-carbon vehicle line-up at EcoVelocity, combining design style, technology and affordability thanks to impressive fuel economy."

The economy offered by the engine means that Mondeo drivers also benefit from having to pay no road tax in the first year of ownership and then just £30 annually thereafter.

"Sales of both the fuel-sipping 1.6-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol EcoBoost are rising since being introduced this year on all Ford large cars - Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy - with Auto-Start-Stop as standard," the firm added.
