Honda Civic Type R Signs Off With More Silverware

Sales of the Honda Civic Type R may be coming to an end soon across Europe, but the car continues to gain accolades after being named as ‘Hot Hatch of the Year’ at the Auto Express Awards.

The sixth generation Type R – based on the FL5 model - had previously secured the top prize in both 2023 and 2024 and once again emerged on top of the pile to provide further indication of what will be lost when it disappears from showrooms.

Describing the Type R as a car that ‘is engineered with all the precision and detail that Porsche would give to 911 GT3 [but] channelled into a practical, family-sized hatchback’, Auto Express once again found the car to be best in its class, seeing off the likes of the Alpine A290 and Audi RS 3 – both of which were highly commended.

Honda is incredibly proud to see the Civic Type R achieve a third consecutive win as Hot Hatch of the Year,” Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda Motor Europe – UK, said.

“These accolades highlight the strength of the Type R, and we’re now excited for what the future holds with our driver-focused hybrid models.”

An 'Ultimate Edition' version of the Type R will mark the end of sales in Europe and will be available in strictly limited numbers.
