Volkswagen is moving closer to the reveal of the new ID. Polo in production form with final testing of the all-electric supermini continuing around the globe.

The ID. Polo is set for launch next year as the first of four new compact Volkswagen EV models and will initially be offered with three different power outputs ranging from 85kW to 155kW, with the more sporty ID. Polo GTI to follow at a later date.

Range is expected to be up to 280 miles depending on the battery chosen, with an ability to charge at up to 130kW.

Whilst the final specification – and pricing - of UK variants of the ID. Polo have still to be confirmed, Volkswagen has revealed that the car has been packaged in such a way that more than 430 litres of boot space will be provided, which surpasses the existing model by nearly 25 per cent.

It will also make the ID. Polo a serious player in the small family car market, offering more space than a number of larger models but in a compact package.

“The ID. Polo marks the beginning of a new generation of Volkswagen: with fresh design, intuitive operation, top quality and first-class driving characteristics – and finally with a proper name again,” Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schafer said.

“With an entry-level price starting at 25,000 euros, we are making electric mobility accessible to many people in Europe. And this is just the beginning: In 2026, we will launch six new electric models – all 100 per cent Volkswagen!”
