Mazda has become the latest manufacturer to enter the fiercely contested electric SUV ranks with the sleek-looking Mazda CX-6e.

Coming hot on the heels of the new Mazda 6e – which will be arriving in Vertu Mazda showrooms imminently – the CX-6e joins the zero emissions SUV fray to strengthen the Japanese firm’s EV offerings.

Though similar in size and positioning as the popular Mazda CX-5, the CX-6e is pitched as a more desirable electric alternative to the likes of the Skoda Enyaq, MGS6 and Smart #5.

It certainly packs a visual punch, the svelte interpretation of Mazda’s ‘Kodo’ design language evidenced by the slimline headlights and illuminated strip around the broad front fascia, as well as the rakish roofline and chunky haunches.

Those interested in intuitive technology will also be wowed by an interior dominated by an enormous 26-inch 5K display that unusually starts in the centre of the dashboard area and stretches towards the front passenger compartment.

Traditional dials in front of the driver have been replaced by heads-up displays that appear on the windscreen, while Mazda promises that many of the controls can be completed by simple gestures – such as a wave to skip songs – and voice control.

Electric power is handled by a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that offers upwards of 300-miles of range, while recharging (10 to 80%) takes just 24 minutes using a fast-charger.

The CX-6e is practical too, offering a 468-litre boot, plus an 80-litre ‘frunk’ underneath the bonnet – the ideal space for charging cables, for instance.

Two trims levels – Takumi and Takumi Plus – will be offered when the CX-6e goes on sale later in 2026.
