Mercedes Reveals New CLA Shooting Brake

Mercedes has revealed the first all-electric Shooting Brake model after revealing the CLA estate model that will go on sale in Europe early next year.

The new CLA saloon is due to arrive in showrooms before the end of the year as a full EV, with a hybrid version then following on.

The CLA Shooting Brake will also be offered in the first instance as a full electric option with Mercedes’ EQ Technology, with a maximum range of up to 472 miles on the 250+ variant of the car.

“The new CLA Shooting Brake is designed for those who appreciate the dynamism of a sporty vehicle but don’t want to compromise on space and practicality in everyday life,” Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Sales, said.

“It combines intelligent technology and efficiency to deliver a fresh, engaging driving experience. For our customers, this means more space for individuality, travelling and for their own personal lifestyle.”

As expected from an estate model, the CLA Shooting Brake will provide plenty of space for owners, with 455 litres of space in the rear which can be increased to nearly 1,300 litres when the rear seats are folded forwards.

The frunk under the bonnet then provides a further 101 litres of luggage space, whilst a slightly longer body and wheelbase means more space for passengers in both the front and rear.

The Shooting Brake is the second vehicle to run off the newest version of the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System, which allows for over-the-air updates for both entertainment and driver assistance systems.

Customised navigation based on data from Google Maps benefits from Electric Intelligence that will plan the quickest route and also includes charging stops to maximise efficiency on the road.

Like the Saloon version, the CLA Shooting Brake benefits from a special two-speed gearbox and will be offered with two different models at launch, with the regular two-wheel drive option and a more powerful all-wheel drive variant.
