Mercedes has revealed the second generation of the GLB ahead of the SUV going on sale next year.

As with the recent CLA, the GLB will initially launch in the UK in EV form before the arrival of a hybrid variant further down the line.

The GLB 250+ with EQ Technology will offer range of just over 390 miles and an ability to add more than 150 miles in little over ten minutes thanks to fast-charging capabilities.

The  GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology adds a second electric motor on the front axle to give all-wheel drive, which slightly reduces the range offered.

Towing capacity of two tonnes also means that the new GLB will join a select group of EVs that are capable of pulling a full-size caravan.

“The all-new GLB is built for everyday life,” Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group said. “Available as a 5-or 7-seater, it adapts effortlessly to our customers’ needs.

“With more space, a new design, greater comfort, and even the ability to tow a full-size caravan, it proves that an electric compact SUV can be as versatile as it is capable.”

Onboard, the boot offers up to 540 litres of space in five seat configuration, with 480 litres when the third row of seats are in place.

An extra 127 litres are available under the hood in the frunk, which means there is no shortage of room for luggage even with every seat filled.

Families will benefit from the fact that a total of five car seats can be fitted for children, with room for two in the second and third rows and a fifth in the front.

The GLB is the latest model to use the new Mercedes‑Benz Operating System that includes AI and which can be updated over-the-air.

UK pricing will be confirmed in due course.
