MG Launches EV Discount On Two Key Models

MG has confirmed that it will introduce its own discounts on two key EVs in the range with immediate effect following the announcement of the government’s new Electric Car Grant.

The Electric Car Grant will be open to cars priced at £37,000 or less subject to manufacturers meeting the ‘highest manufacturing sustainability standards’ – with a maximum discount of up to £3,750 for manufacturers who fall into ‘band one’ and discounts of up to £1,500 for those in ‘band two’.

Individual manufacturers must sign up to be part of the government scheme, although questions have been raised about whether certain manufacturers will be eligible – including Chinese brands such as MG.

In response, MG has revealed its own grant of £1,500 that will be offered to private buyers against both the MG4 and the new MGS5, with that discount being on top of any other incentives currently in place.

The high performance version of the MG4 – the MG4 XPOWER – will also be included, with the decision to introduce the discount being part of an ‘ongoing commitment to making electric driving more accessible and affordable’.

“MG has been a key contributor to the EV sector, consistently recognising the economic and environmental benefits of introducing a wide range of affordable, electric-only models,” MG commercial director Guy Pigounakis said.

“Today’s announcement underlines this commitment and in addition to this, we will also seek to work constructively with the Government to further increase the sale of EVs.”
