MG has successfully retained the Plug-In Hybrid of the Year title at the annual What Car? Awards after the MG HS was named a class winner for the second year in a row.

The only plug-in hybrid offered as part of the MG range, the HS was once again praised for being a ‘genuine bargain’ in the highly-competitive class, offering an official electric range that exceeds most of its competition but at a lower price point.

In fact, the 75 miles of all-electric motoring that is offered by the HS is nearly double the likes of the Ford Kuga and Hyundai TUCSON.

The HS was also praised for interior space, comfort and an impressive list of standard equipment that belies a starting price of just under £32,000.

“The HS Plug-in Hybrid remains an extremely popular choice for UK motorists with 8,000 cars delivered in 2025,” David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK, said.

“Its electric-only range of 75 miles due to a high-capacity 24.7kWh battery is a strong selling-point as a standard, family commute can be covered with one charge.

“The MG HS Hybrid+, equally spacious and generously equipped, means customers also have a self-charging hybrid from MG which can achieve 51.3 MPG (WLTP combined) in addition to low CO2 emissions of 126g/km.

“Overall, the MG HS range of both petrol and hybrid SUVs was the UK’s eighth most popular car in 2025 with just over 30,000 sales.”
