The new seven-seat, plug-in hybrid MGS9 PHEV will hit Vertu MG showrooms at a starting price of just £34,205*, it has been confirmed.
The latest SUV to join MG’s growing line-up, the MGS9 will sit above the petrol/hybrid/PHEV MG HS in the range but won’t command a significant premium over its stablemate.
Unlike the five-seat HS, however the MGS9 comes with an additional row of seating, joining a relatively exclusive group of other seven-seaters that count the Skoda Kodiaq, Peugeot 5008 and Hyundai Santa Fe as members.
Measuring just under five-metres long, the MGS9’s third row of seats can be folded individually to transform the SUV into a five-seater with a mammoth 1026-litres of boot space, making it ideal for families, dog owners or business owners who need versatility.
Aimed at buyers who want the frugality of an electrified driving experience with the reassurance of a fuel-powered engine, the MGS9 is designed to offer the best-of-both-worlds with its PHEV set-up.
The 24.7kWh battery offers up to 62-miles of electric-only range, which should be sufficient for most daily commuting uses, while the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine – which comes with a sizeable 65-litre fuel tank – ensures total range concerns aren’t a factor.
Two trim levels will be offered from launch – Comfort priced on the road at £34,205 and flagship Premium at £36,945.
All models come with heated/electric front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, powered tailgate and 360-degree reversing camera.
Upgrading to the Comfort trim adds leather-style upholstery, ventilated/massaging front seats, front fog lights, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, wireless charger and auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
The MGS9 has already attained the maximum five-star EuroNCAP crash safety rating, while all models come with a 7-year/80,000-miles warranty as standard.
