New Citroen boss Yves Matton has hailed the team's performance at the season-opening rally in Monte Carlo.

The event was won by Sebastien Loeb for a sixth time in the Citroen Ds3 and with new team-mate Mikko Hirvonen securing fourth in his first competitive drive for the team, Matton is confident of success in 2012.

"It's important to start the season on a positive note and great to win a rally as legendary as Monte-Carlo," he commented.

Matton explained that while the ability of the team's drivers is unquestionable, tyre choice was vital in Monte Carlo.

"The analysis work performed prior to the rally by our engineers, who had imagined almost every possible eventuality, helped us to make the right choices," he added.

With a total of 28 points, eight-time WRC champion Loeb was the clear winner, followed by MINI's Dani Sordo, Petter Solberg in the Ford Fiesta WRC and Hirvonen in the second Citroen Ds3.
