The Volkswagen Polo has scooped the top accolade at an awards ceremony in New York.

Drivers looking to invest in a new Volkswagen might want to look no further than the Polo, which was crowned 2010 World Car of the Year just days ago at the New York International Auto Show.

The vehicle was chosen after jurors weighed up factors such as value, safety, merit, emotional appeal, significance and environmental impact.

Professor Dr Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen AG, said the firm is delighted with the win after the Golf scooped the same award last year.

"These automobiles have reaped numerous awards, winning well-nigh every prize the automotive industry has to award," he commented.

In related news, the Polo took another title last month at the Fleet News Awards, where it was named Best Supermini. The Golf took the Best Lower medium Car title as well as the accolade for 2010 Company Car of the Year.
