Nissan boss handed honour on Queen's Birthday List

This year's Queen's Birthday Honours List has seen a member of the motoring industry recognised for his services to the sector.

Jerry Hardcastle, vice-president at Nissan Technical Centre Europe, has been awarded an OBE.

The expert was named alongside music stars Gary Barlow and choirmaster and broadcaster Gareth Malone, in a move that has delighted the Japanese manufacturer,

Commenting on the honour, Mr Hardcastle said: "What a wonderful and unexpected moment.

"The achievement of this award has been made possible by the unwavering support of my family, the generous contribution from my colleagues at Nissan and the professional guidance from the members of the UK Automotive Council."

News of the honour comes after 23 years pf service at Nissan - a period that has seen Mr Hardcastle oversee the design and development of the Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Juke.

He was also instrumental in a number of special projects including the Nissan Juke-R.
