Nissan Gives Update To Famous Micra 350SR
Ahead of the relaunch of the Micra as a full EV, Nissan has revealed a refreshed version of one of the most iconic models in the range – which first broke cover more than two decades ago.
Following the launch of the third-generation Micra back in 2002, Nissan turned to Ray Mallock Ltd – the team that ran the Primera GT to title-winning success in the British Touring Car Championship – to create a special version of the car to show how adaptable the new Micra was.
Taking a car built at the Nissan factory in Sunderland, RML removed the engine under the bonnet and instead fitted a modified 3.5 litre V6 from the Murano behind the front-seats, giving the car more than 300bhp despite weighing in at just 1,200kg.
A full roll cage was also fitted alongside a new gearbox, with the car going on to be a regular attendee at events and was also loaned out to journalists – with the team at Evo for example falling in love with the 350SR when offered it as a long-term loan car.

Having been out of use for a number of years, Nissan has now elected to bring the 350SR back to life ahead of the relaunch of the Micra name, with the car undergoing a ‘restomod refresh’ for its 23rd birthday.
In Japanese, the numbers two and three are ni and san – hence the decision to carry out the work now.
A team from Nissan Design Europe in London overhauled the car with a new livery to replace the original red colour scheme, with the 350SR now sporting a liquid silver livery with blue highlights. The original wheels from a Nissan 350Z have been refurbished whilst new LED headlights have been fitted.
New seats feature in the interior, where there is also the addition of a 9in touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, although the growl of the engine behind is likely to be the soundtrack to the majority of trips the car makes after it appears in public for the first time at the annual SMMT Test Day at Millbrook.
