Nissan has used the famous journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats to showcase the efficiency of its e-POWER technology having completed the trip on less than a tank of fuel.
Experts from Nissan Technical Centre Europe drove two Qashqai e-POWER vehicles on the 837 journey from one end of the UK to the other, and reached the finish with 100 miles of fuel still left in the tank.
That relates to impressive fuel economy figures of 75mpg, which eclipses the figures when Nissan last completed the same challenge back in 2007 using a diesel powered Qashqai – which was also fitted with a larger fuel tank.
The latest Qashqai with e-POWER technology entered production in Sunderland earlier this year and uses a petrol engine to generate electricity, which then powers the electric motor driving the wheels.
That means drivers benefit from an EV-like driving experience – with instant torque and smooth acceleration – but don’t need to plug the car in be charged.
“Driving the Qashqai e-POWER from Land’s End to John O’Groats really showcased the strength of the new powertrain,” Dean Driver, Vehicle Evaluation Engineer, said.
“Not only did it deliver a smooth and quiet drive throughout the journey, but we completed over 800 miles with fuel still in the tank - proving just how far this technology has come in combining range with refinement.”
