Plymouth Argyle battled back from conceding early against Cardiff City to grab a first EFL Championship win under new boss Ian Foster.

Foster had overseen a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield in his first league game in charge and things didn t start well at Home Park when Perry Ng forced the ball over the line from close range to put the Welsh side in front.

Plymouth bounced back however and Alfie Devine - making his debut alongside Adam Forshaw - played a ball into the path of Ryan Hardie, who stroked home the equaliser on the half hour to maintain his recent run of form.

Hardie then gave Argyle the lead after the break when he received the ball in the box from Morgan Whittaker before spinning past his man and blasting the ball beyond Ben Alnwick in the Cardiff goal for his tenth goal of the season.

Connor Hazard was forced into a number of smart saves as Cardiff chased an equaliser but Hardie then set up Whittaker for his eighth goal in as many games as the forward - named as captain for the day - stroked him the third with nine minutes to go.

It means Argyle have now moved up to 15th in the table, nine points clear of the drop zone ahead of the next game - a fourth round FA Cup tie with fellow Championship outfit Leeds.
