Production Begins On New Qashqai e-POWER

Nissan has confirmed that production of the next generation Qashqai e-POWER has now kicked off at its factory in Sunderland ahead of the car going on sale.
The latest version of the popular C-segment SUV will utilise the newest version of the e-POWER electrified powertrain that has been designed to offer a driving experience similar to that found in a full EV.
The 1.5 litre petrol engine fitted to the car is used to generate electricity that is then used to drive the wheels, helping to provide lower emissions and a refined drive behind the wheel.
The newest Qashqai e-POWER will benefit from a 12% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the model it replaces and will offer drivers up to 62mpg, with a potential full range of nearly 750 miles.
“Our world-class manufacturing and engineering team has been building Qashqai with pride since 2006,” Adam Pennick, Vice President for Manufacturing in the UK, said.
“That’s why we have the perfect blend of experience, skill and technical expertise to manufacture Qashqai with this fantastic new e-POWER drivetrain.
“It was an exciting moment to watch the first new e-POWER battery being fitted on the production line at the plant. We’re confident that our customers worldwide will love this new, no-compromise electrified powertrain.”
Award Winning:
News that production of the upgraded model comes on the back of the Qashqai being named as the best home-grown electrified car in the EcoCar Electrified Top 50 awards – where special praise was handed out to the e-POWER technology.
“Our e-POWER technology is perfect for customers looking to get the sensation of driving an electric vehicle, but who are not quite ready to go full EV and want the familiarity of a petrol powertrain,” James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, added.
“Huge thanks to the Eco Car team for recognising this unique hybrid technology and celebrating an electrified car that’s built right here in Britain.”
