Renault uses London as Scalextric track

The new Renault ZOE electric supermini has taken to the streets of London, using the city as a giant version of every young boy's Christmas dream - a Scalextric track.

A specially created track was laid in the UK capital, passing by famous landmarks such as the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Bridge.

The 1.9-mile track sees the modified ZOEs attached using specially designed braids, with an aerial cable added to the cars. This allows them to be remotely operated with the iconic Scalextric controller attached to an iPhone.

Competition owners then took to the skies in a helicopter, guiding the black and white ZOE models around the streets on one of the most famous cities in the world.

The electric model is perfect for urban racing, the manufacturer has said, due to its instant torque and a 0-31mph time of just four seconds.

When on normal UK roads, the car emits no carbon emissions whatsoever, and owners can benefit from the government's Plug-in Car Grant deduction.
