Skoda has released the latest in a series where famous models of the past are re-imagined for the modern era.

The 110 R Coupe was launched by Skoda in 1970 and produced for a decade, and is widely regarded as one of the best cars to have been produced by the Czech manufacturer.

Powered by a 1.1 litre engine in the rear and weighing in at just 880kg, the car would go on to be used by Skoda as part of its motorsport activities and was the pre-cursor to the 130 RS; an even more legendary model that arrived in the 1980s.

The modern-day reboot of the 110 R was the work of Skoda designer Richard Švec, who reimagined the model as an all-electric coupe with rear-wheel drive.

“I didn’t want to recreate the past,” he said. “The goal was to capture the spirit of the 110 R in a car that feels innovative and absolutely contemporary. Finding the right balance between heritage and modernity was the real challenge.

“I’ve always been drawn to elegant cars – those with clean surfaces and simple details. That’s exactly what the 110 R did so well. It was stylish, but it also had real motorsport credibility. That combination fascinated me.”

As with other reimagined classics that have been shown off by Skoda, the 110 R remains a concept with no current plans to enter production.
