Skoda Takes Top Honours At Auto Express Awards

Skoda secured top honours at the annual Auto Express Awards after the new Elroq picked up the gong for ‘Car of the Year’.

The SUV emerged on top of a strong field of contenders that included the Renault 5 and Renault 4 to become the fifth successive electric car to win the award.

It also marked the fifth time that Skoda has taken the award, with the Octavia (2000), the Citigo (2012), the Yeti (2010) and the Fabia (2000) having all been recognised in the past.

As well as taking the overall prize thanks to its ‘broad skill set and intelligent design’, the Elroq was named as the ‘Mid-size SUV of the Year’ ahead of the Dacia Bigster and the Tesla Model Y.

“Winning Car of the Year means a lot to all of us at Skoda,“ CEO Klaus Zellmer said. “I’m grateful for this recognition of the hard work, creativity, and care that goes into building a car we’re truly proud of.

“We set out to create a car that people would love to drive on their daily explorations. To see it connect with drivers and experts alike is incredibly rewarding."

The Elroq was one of four models from the Skoda range to take awards, with the Octavia named as ‘Family Car of the Year’ and the Superb taking the ‘Estate of the Year’ crown.

The Kodiaq replicated the success of its smaller sibling by taking ‘Large SUV of the Year’.
