Toyota has confirmed that the Land Cruiser will be offered with a hybrid powertrain for the first time next year, with the first deliveries expected in the UK from March.
The new version of the off-roader will utilise the well-established 2.8 litre turbocharged diesel engine that is already featured in the Land Cruiser but combines it with a 48v system including an electric motor-generator, lithium-ion hybrid battery and a DC-DC power converter.
The 48v system is the same as the one used in the newest Hilux, and has been designed to be fitted to existing powertrains without the need for significant design changes.
Whilst the regular diesel-powered Land Cruiser is available with seven seats, the new hybrid variant will be exclusively offered with five seats and will be priced at £80,740.
The car will be come with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard and also includes roof rails and an opening panoramic roof.
A 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, head-up display and 14-speaker JBL premium audio system come as standard equipment on the inside of the car alongside a range of driver assistance technologies and a Toyota Safety Sense package.
