Toyota has revealed the all-new GR GT Supercar that it plans to launch in 2027.
Named in deference to Toyota Gazoo Racing – Toyota’s successful racing division which currently competes in the World Endurance Championship and World Rally Championship – the GR GT has been developed alongside the GR GT3 race car, which is due to debut on track at the same time.
The GR GT is described as a ‘road-legal race car’ that has been developed with a driver-first approach, with a focus on being as aerodynamic and lightweight as possible.
The low weight has been achieved by using carbon fibre reinforced plastic and other materials in the body panels, with an all-aluminium body frame provided additional rigidity.
A front-engine, rear-wheel-drive powertrain layout will allow drivers to maximise the handling capabilities of the car, which will be powered by a 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo engine that is married to a hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
That will give the GR GT more than 640bhp and will see it capable of a top speed of 200mph.
With the GR GT still in development, changes may be made to the car ahead of it being officially launched to the market, with finalised details to be confirmed in due course.
It will become the first supercar from the Toyota family since the Lexus LFA, which was built between 2010 and 2012.
