Vauxhall's ground-breaking extended-range electric vehicle, the Ampera, has impressed readers of the Telegraph, as it was voted best hybrid/electric car in the inaugural Telegraph Motoring Awards.
It successfully defeated strong competition from the likes of the Nissan LEAF and the Toyota Prius Plug-In to take the crown, receiving more votes than any other car.
"We had a great response to our Car of the Year awards and Telegraph readers voted for the Vauxhall Ampera as their favourite hybrid/electric car," said Leo Wilkinson, acting assistant motoring content editor at the Telegraph.
He added that it is a "revolutionary car" and that the publication's readers obviously put a lot of importance in that.
The Vauxhall Ampera has an impressive battery range of 25 to 50 miles, at which point a petrol engine kicks in to transport the vehicle a further 300 miles.
It also differs from typical electric vehicles in that its wheels are electrically driven at all times.
"Ampera is a technological masterpiece and we are very pleased that it has been recognised by Telegraph readers," said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall's chairman and managing director.
