New Toyota Aygo X Hybrid

The New Toyota Aygo X Hybrid is a very exciting step forward for Toyota’s smallest and most characterful model, becoming the first full hybrid in the small car segment.

The Aygo X takes all the fun of the Aygo, adds a dash of crossover style, and ties it up with electrified technology.

On top of its funky styling, the Aygo X Hybrid delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency (up to 74.3mpg) and the lowest CO₂ emissions of any non-plug-in car on the market at just 87g/km.

That combination of efficiency and style has it rightly recognised as the What Car? Small Car of the Year 2026

If you’re on the hunt for a new compact car that feels modern and fun to drive, the Toyota Aygo X could be the one.

New Toyota Aygo X Hybrid Interior

It may be a compact car, but inside the Aygo X Hybrid feels refreshingly upmarket. Toyota has focused on creating a cabin that’s comfortable, connected and full of character.

It has an elevated driving position for excellent all-round visibility, ideal for city driving, whilst the refreshed dashboard layout introduces a larger 7-inch digital driver’s display and redesigned controls.

Higher trims benefit from premium touches such as marbled or speckled trim finishes, colour-coordinated details and high-quality synthetic leather steering wheels.

Connectivity is strong across the range, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB-C charging ports on all grades, and larger multimedia screens on Excel and GR Sport models.

Available features such as a wireless smartphone charger, nanoe-X air quality system, and JBL premium audio are added treats.

New Toyota Aygo X Hybrid Exterior

The Aygo X Hybrid’s crossover-inspired exterior design is bold and confident, with a refreshed front end featuring a striking three-dimensional grille, flared wheel arches and a wider stance that gives the car real road presence.

One of our favourite features of the New Aygo X is Toyota’s distinctive “mellow spice” palette, including standout shades such as Cinnamon, Jasmine, Tarragon and Lavender, many available in stylish bi-tone combinations with a contrasting black roof.

Details such as LED lighting, 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and contrasting trim elements ensure the Aygo X looks just as good parked outside a café as it does weaving through city traffic.

Space Inside the New Toyota Aygo X Hybrid

Despite its compact footprint, the Aygo X Hybrid makes impressively smart use of space. The interior comfortably accommodates four adults, whilst the 231-litre boot offers plenty of room for shopping, boxes, or luggage for a weekend getaway.

Toyota’s clever packaging means the hybrid battery is neatly integrated beneath the rear seats, preserving cabin comfort and boot space. The distinctive pagoda-style roof also helps create a greater sense of openness inside, whilst contributing to its improved aerodynamics.

The Aygo X’s layout is ideal for drivers who want city-friendly dimensions without feeling cramped.

Behind the Wheel of the New Toyota Aygo X Hybrid

Built on Toyota’s GA-B platform, the Aygo X benefits from a low centre of gravity, updated suspension and disc brakes front and rear, all contributing to confident handling and excellent manoeuvrability.

The new 1.5-litre full hybrid powertrain, shared with the Yaris and Yaris Cross, delivers a total output of 114bhp, providing noticeably sharper acceleration than the previous petrol model. With a 0–62mph time of 9.2 seconds, the Aygo X feels lively around town and perfectly capable on faster roads.

Electric-only running at low speeds makes urban journeys quieter and smoother, whilst extensive sound-damping measures ensure a calm drive. A tight turning circle of under five metres makes parking and narrow streets effortless.
