Audi has taken the covers off the Concept C ahead of the Munich Motor Show, with the TT-inspired two-seater sports car offering a ‘definitive preview of the design of future models’.
The original TT was launched back in 1998 and would prove to be hugely popular across three generations before production drew to a close in 2023.
The design of the Concept C is not too dissimilar to the TT, but features inspiration from a raft of models from through the years – not least the Auto Union Type C.
The front grille pays homage to the 1930s race car, with the minimalist design also featuring a new roof concept that allows the car to be as elegant at a coupe but with the option to remove the roof – marking the first time a retractable hardtop has featured on an Audi roadster.
The interior features ‘physical controls [that] provide a tactile experience that reflects mechanical quality’ but there is also plenty of technology that includes a 10.4” foldable centre display.
Audi insists that the car has been designed to a philosophy that is ‘Clear, Technical, Intelligent and Emotional’, and will be the approach taken to new models in the coming years.
“Our history is marked by bold leaps in innovation and state-of-the-art technology combined with an uncompromising focus on clarity in design,” Audi CEO Gernot Dollner said. “Our most legendary models perfectly embody this combination.”
“The way we design our vehicles is the way we will shape our company. Clarity is an ethos and the compass that will guide Audi through the times ahead.
“The phase of taking stock is over. Now is the time to look to the future and pick up speed. We are focusing on what really matters to set standards in design and quality.”
The rebirth of a sportscar in the Audi line-up, with production of the R8 having also drawn to a close, comes as the German marque prepares to move into Formula 1 for the first time in 2026.
