Citroen Becomes First Brand To Benefit From Electric Car Grant
Citroen is the first manufacturer to officially become part of the government’s Electric Car Grant, with reductions put in place on four models across the range.
People looking to purchase an e-C3, e-C4, e-C5 or an e-Berlingo will benefit from a saving of £1,500 off the list price as result of the grant, which will be automatically deducted from the price of the vehicle.
News that Citroen will benefit from the grant – albeit at the second level rather than the full £3,750 – comes on the back of a number of manufacturers introducing their own grants in response to the government announcement.
“With the first four models approved today and more to come over the next few weeks, this summer we’re making owning an electric car cheaper, easier and a reality for thousands more people across the UK,” transport secretary Heidi Alexander said.
“Once again we’re delivering our Plan for Change by standing firmly on the side of motorists and manufacturers, driving down costs for consumers, supporting jobs and putting money back in people’s pockets.
The additional discount now means the e-C3 becomes one of the cheapest EVs currently on sale in the UK.
“We welcome the support of the Electric Car Grant and are delighted to be the first to have our electric range, including the new e-C3, new e-C4, new e -C5 Aircross and e-Berlingo, approved and eligible,” Citroen UK managing director Greg Taylor said.
“At Citroen we want everyone to have the opportunity to make the switch to an electric car and this support will help make our cars more accessible for our customers.”
