Kia Confirms Details For European-spec EV5

Kia has revealed technical specifications for the upcoming EV5, which is set to arrive in the UK towards the end of 2025.

The new model, which has already launched in China, will sit in the middle of Kia’s current SUV range between the two cars that most recently won the World Car of the Year – the EV3 and the EV9.

Built on the same platform as both the EV3 and the new EV4, the EV5 is set to be offered from launch with a single 81.4kWh capacity battery and in two different trim levels.

Both will be front-wheel drive, with no indication as yet as to whether the four-wheel drive variant available in Asia will be brought to the UK.

“The EV5 is a cornerstone of Kia’s European growth strategy,” Sjoerd Knipping, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Europe, said.

“We are entering Europe’s most competitive EV segment with a model that blends our iconic ‘Opposites United’ design, everyday practicality, and innovation rooted in electric mobility.

“This is us reaffirming our commitment to sustainable mobility, tailored to the way Europeans live, work, and drive.”

The EV5 adopts a similar design to both the EV3 and the EV9, with a boxy silhouette that will be instantly recognisable as being a Kia on the road.

A maximum range of 329 miles will be offered on the baseline model of the car, with all versions supporting fast charging from 10-to-80% in as little as 30 minutes.

European models will be built in Korea and will come with Kia’s latest connected car Navigation Cockpit system, including a panoramic wide display combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a 5.3-inch climate control display.

The latest suite of Kia’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems will also be offered as standard, with the EV5 being one of the first models to feature the latest version of Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.

A sporty EV5 GT is set to follow at a later date.
