Mercedes Offers Glimpse Of The Future With Concept Hypercar

Mercedes has given a glimpse of the future of its high-performance AMG arm after taking the covers off the Concept AMG GT XX.

The car has been designed to showcase ‘exceptional technology, supreme endurance, hyper-fast charging and a highly emotional design’, and gives an insight into what to expect from an upcoming four-door production sportscar that is set to appear in future.

The GT XX utilises F1-inspired technology to help provide staggering levels of performance, with a combination of three axial flux motors and a high performance battery giving peak output of more than 1,300hp.

The decision to use axial flux motors provides additional power despite being both lighter and more compact that conventional radial flux motors, with the  battery making the most of technology developed through both F1 and the AMG ONE hypercar programme.

That will take the car to a top speed of more than 223mph, but retains the ability to add just under 250 miles of range in under five minutes.

“The best minds in our global R&D network have contributed their extensive expertise – from Mercedes‑Benz in Sindelfingen and Unterturkheim to Mercedes‑AMG in Affalterbach and YASA in the UK to our Formula 1 drivetrain experts at Mercedes‑AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth,” Markus Schafer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said.

“Together, they have developed the Concept AMG GT XX and are providing an insight into pioneering drivetrain technology and the future of performance. The technology programme pushes the boundaries even further and ventures into new ground.

“The Concept AMG GT XX with its three axial flux motors now lifts performance and endurance to a completely new level.”
