Middlesbrough are just a point away from the play-off places in the EFL Championship after battling back from a goal down at Millwall to take all three points.

Boro went into the game on the back of a fine victory against Chelsea in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final, but the Vertu Motors-backed side fell behind when Joe Bryan smashed in the opening goal from the edge of the box.

Millwall then hit the bar through Jake Cooper but Boro - who had been late arriving at the ground due to traffic issues - were able to draw level when Sam Greenwood found space on the right and slipped the ball to Lukas Engel to fire into an empty net.

That made things all-square at the break and in the second half, Boro hit the front when Isaiah Jones picked up a poor clearance and slotted home the second shortly before the hour mark.

Millwall had chances to get back on level terms but a late third from Marcus Forss gave Boro a first win in London in nine attempts.

As a result, Michael Carrick s side now sit ninth in the table ahead of the visit of Rotherham next weekend.
