The Renault 4 and selected versions of the Renault 5 have been added to the list of Band 1 cars that are eligible for the maximum discount offered under the Electric Car Grant.
The discount will be offered against cars fitted with the 52kWh battery, which means the full Renault 4 range will benefit from savings of £3,750 off the list price.
The discount will also offered against Renault 5 models fitted with the long-range battery option, with those fitted with the smaller 40kWh option continuing to sit in Band 2, with a discount of £1,500 off list price.
For differentiation, the grant will apply to models that carry ‘+’ as part of their name, with the batteries within these cars having been sourced from Renault’s new factory within the sustainability-focused Electri-city car production hub in northern France.
“The awarding of the top-tier £3,750 Electric Car Grant is great news for customers who are thinking about switching to electric,” Managing Director of Renault Group UK Adam Wood said.
“Renault 5 and Renault 4 are multi award-winning vehicles thanks to their unique blend of head and heart appeal and, now, thanks to the added incentive of top tier Electric Car Grant, they are more accessible than ever.
“Renault is committed to democratising car ownership. With Renault 5, Renault 4 and soon new Twingo, we are expanding the appeal of electric cars to more people, offering great design and competitive technology at highly accessible prices.
“We are pleased to see that our focus on environmental accountability and investment in made-in-Europe battery manufacturing has been recognised by the awarding of the top-tier Electric Car Grant.
“Since the grant was introduced we have seen momentum build in the market, and this decision will further boost the UK’s rising EV sales even further.”
The Renault Megane and the Renault Scenic E-Tech also benefit from the £1,500 Band 2 discount.
