Vauxhall has given the first teasing glimpse of its upcoming electric hot hatch, the Vauxhall Corsa GSE.
Set to become the latest model in Vauxhall’s dedicated performance range to wear the hallowed ‘GSE’ moniker, the flagship Vauxhall Corsa is not only primed to the marque’s sportiest effort yet, it will also be its most ambitious.
The latest in a long line of iconic small hot hatches to come from Vauxhall, the new Corsa GSE will follow in the wheel tracks of models like the Nova GTE, Corsa GSi and Corsa VXR.
This time, however, the Corsa GSE – which will share its running gear and underpinnings with the upcoming Peugeot E-208 GTi - will be all-electric and generate a whopping 276bhp.
Though finer details of the powertrain haven’t been revealed as yet, Vauxhall has given a clue as to the Corsa GSE’s striking aesthetics with an official shot of the wheel trims.
While not giving too much of the car away, while the trims adopt an aerodynamic construction – rather than be multi-spoked – they will blend into the design with intricate graphics that can also be seen on the front faring and doors.
It remains to be seen whether the bold yellow trim – on the graphics and the brake caliper – will make it over here as this is the signature colour for sporty Opel’s, the name company’s brand name on the continent, not Vauxhall.
Though the Corsa GSE will be based on the current generation model, its replacement – which will take inspiration from the wild Vision GT concept revealed at the 2025 Munich Motor Show – is due in the next 18 months
The arrival of the GSE represents another show of confidence for the Corsa in the wake of its great rival – the Ford Fiesta – being discontinued.
The Fiesta’s demise has seen the Corsa firmly establish itself as the best-selling small hatchback in the UK, while the electric version is also riding high in the sales charts.
