Volkswagen has announced a special edition version of the Polo to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the model.

First launched in 1975, the Polo has gone on to become one of the most popular B-segment cars ever built, and was the top selling supermini last year in the UK based on data provided by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Now, as part of the celebrations of half a century of the model, Volkswagen has confirmed the launch of the Polo Edition 50 - which will go on sale in limited numbers.

The Edition 50 will sit between the R-Line and the Black Edition in the Polo range and will be offered in a crystal blue metallic colour not available on any other Polo.

Exclusive '50' badges will be a feature across the car, with Edition 50 sports seats and gloss black inserts across the cabin.

A tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, rear-view camera, keyless access and start, and two-zone Air Care Climatronic air conditioning also feature as would be the case in higher-specification versions of the car, with power coming from a 1.0-litre petrol TSI engine paired up with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Edition 50 will be available to order from 19 June at £26,350 OTR.
