Proud to Partner with Edgbaston

Vertu is proud to support Edgbaston, one of the most famous venues in world cricket, in an exciting new partnership in the West Midlands.

The partnership will see Vertu become front-of-shirt sponsor for the first fully-professional women's side to play at the iconic stadium as domestic cricket in England moves into a new era.

About Edgbaston

Edgbaston is widely regarded as one of the leading venues in cricket by players and fans alike - with countless players through the years having insisted that the Edgbaston crowd was like having a twelfth man.

Former captain Alex Stewart for one described the atmosphere as being similar to Eden Gardens in Calcutta - which can hold four times as many people.

Edgbaston has been the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club since the 1880s, with test matches played at the venue since the early 1900s.

Located in the heart of Birmingham, Edgbaston has played host to a number of memorable cricketing events through the years across matches at both domestic and international level.

These include a stand of 411 between Peter May and Colin Cowdrey that would be an England test record for nearly 70 years, Brian Lara's 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham, and the first ever Women's World Cup final in which England beat Australia.

It was also the location for the first day-night game under floodlights in the UK back in 1997, and hosted the first day-night test in the country 20 years later.

Backing the Bears

The bear has long been an emblem of the county, and Warwickshire's first fully-professional women's side will proudly play under the Bears name as one of eight new Tier 1 teams in a revamped national structure.

A team featuring a blend of youth and experience - including a number of England-capped players - will take to the field carrying the Vertu name as part of our relationship with the team, and will compete in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, the Vitality Blast and a new knockout competition following a similar format to the FA Cup.

With a number of double-header games alongside the men's team scheduled at Edgbaston, the women's game will benefit from a huge boost in profile and we are delighted to be backing the team on its new journey.

Local Ties

Vertu has close to ties to Edgbaston with the nearest dealership, Ford Birmingham, being found little more than a mile away from the ground. More than a dozen other sites representing various manufacturers are then located across the wider West Midlands.

The Ford Birmingham site was where Bristol Street Motors was founded back in 1924, and the brand was part of the Vertu Motors Group until April 2025 when it was brought under the Vertu name as part of a brand consolidation programme.

That created a huge network of dealerships operating under a single name spread across England and Scotland, although we retain a huge sense of pride in our links to the West Midlands, and England's second city.
