Vertu Motors-backed Burnley FC battled back from a disappointing defeat at Wolves to grab a point from the long trip to the South coast to face off against Brighton.

The Clarets went into a double-header week of action in the Premier League on the back of a fine 5-0 home win against Sheffield United, which had lifted Vincent Kompany’s side off the bottom of the table.

Unfortunately, Burnley were unable to make it back-to-back wins during the visit to Molineux as Wolves were able to edge a 1-0 win.

The away side came close to taking the lead through Jay Rodriguez and Josh Brownhill but a mistake at the back would prove to be costly when it allowed Hwang Hee-chan to score just before half-time.

Unable to respond in the second half, Burnley slipped to a narrow defeat and then headed for Brighton to take on a side once again in contention for the European places.

Although Brighton started the stronger of the two, Burnley grew into the game and hit the front just before the break when a shot from Wilson Odobert took a slight deflection on its way past goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

Verbruggen then prevented Burnley from going two clear when the second half got underway before Brighton started to pile on the pressure, with James Trafford forced into a number of saves before the equaliser arrived thanks to Simon Adingra.

It would prove to be a vital point for Burnley after Sheffield United grabbed a win to move level on points and Everton also secured a victory – leaving the Clarets sitting five points from safety ahead of a huge game against the Toffees this weekend.
