Honda has confirmed that the Prelude model will return to the European market in the first half of 2026.

The sixth-generation of the car - which was last produced in the early 2000s - will be a hybrid electric model launched to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Insight.

The Insight was one of the first hybrid cars available on the mass market, being launched shortly before Toyota brought the Prius to market.

Few details have been confirmed about specifics of the powertrain that will be used to power the Prelude, with suggestions that the engine used in the Honda Civic will be fitted to the two-door coupe.

Honda has however confirmed that the car will debut 'innovative Honda S+ Shift technology', which will simulate the sound and feel of quickfire automatic gear changes.

The new system is likely to use paddles on the steering wheel to change up and down the 'box and will be an evolution of the CVT system used in the Civic.
