Prices for the all-new Honda Super-N have been announced with the funky city car set to become one of the UK’s cheapest electric cars when it goes on sale.
Representing a new entry point to the Honda range, the Super-N will sit below the Jazz in the Japanese manufacturer’s line-up and rival the likes of the Hyundai INSTER, Dacia Spring and Citroen e-C3.
Set to reach Vertu Honda dealerships in July, the Super-N will have a starting price below £20,000.
Channelling the spirit of the iconic Honda City Turbo II from the 1980’s, the Super-N is engineered on the lightweight platform that underpins many of the firm’s ‘Kei’ cars in Japan.
‘Kei’ cars are cars built to a set of Japanese government guidelines that dictate the model’s length, engine size and horsepower in an effort to promote the use of smaller, economical cars.
It’s a style of car that suits the advent of electric vehicles, prompting Honda to develop the Super-N for sale in the UK and Europe.
With a short but tall profile typical of a kei car, the UK specification model gets chunky bumpers and bold colour choices to give it a striking final appearance.
Unique to the Super-N is a 29.3kWh battery that offers two distinct power outputs of either 63bhp or 94bhp.
The higher figure can be achieved by pressing the ‘BOOST’ button, which activates more power from the e-Axle for a short burst of performance that can aid with overtaking or accelerating from a standstill quickly.
Moreover, the Super-N comes with a simulated seven-speed automatic transmission and an Active Sound Control system that mimics an engine sound. These features are designed to give the Super-N a more engaging driving experience for what Honda dubs ‘a strong emotional connection’.
A combined WLTP range of 128-miles is quoted, but up to 199-miles is possible in low-speed urban environments.
Despite its compact length, the Super-N gets a variety of design tricks to increase practicality, namely its tall profile and large window area which should provide an airy interior experience.
