When Mazda debuted its RX Vision concept at last year s Tokyo Motor Show, the reception was overwhelmingly positive. However, fans wishing to one day own the RX Vision could only dream. As purely a study in design, Mazda had no real intentions of ever putting the concept into production, not to mention that the car s proposed rotary powertrain could pose a big hurdle when keeping within emissions targets.
However, recent comments from Mazda s design director Kevin Rice have intrigued fans of the RX Vision, and provided hope that the car one may be produced. Speaking about the Vision s recent exhibition at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este classic car show, Rice stated that his team were overwhelmed with the reaction to the RX Vision .
In an interview with Top Gear magazine, Rice explains that Inside Mazda, we all love the car, but to see the reaction of the people here at Villa - car fanatics of the highest level - and for them to be impressed has kind of shocked us.
We d love to build it Rice went on to say. In the back rooms at Mazda, we re still developing it, and when the world s ready to buy another rotary, we ll be ready to provide it.
