The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono range has a new addition. Ducati has revealed the Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera – and it's the most aggressive version of the lineup yet.

Available at dealerships from June 2025, the Nera completes a three-strong family that already includes the Standard (in Ducati Red) and the RVE with its street art-inspired Graffiti livery.

All black, all business

The Nera trades colour for attitude. Every surface wears an all-black finish, from the bodywork to the frame, drawing the eye straight to the bike's lean, compact silhouette.

It also arrives with two standard extras the other versions don't get as default: road-legal Termignoni silencers* and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up/Down – both of which sharpen the experience noticeably.

The Termignoni units feature black steel sleeves and carry full type approval, so they're road-legal without compromise.

The engine behind the attitude

The Nera shares its engine with the rest of the 698 Mono range, and that's no bad thing.

The Superquadro Mono is a 659cc single-cylinder unit derived directly from the Superquadro twin found in the 1299 Panigale. It produces 77.5hp at 9,750rpm and 63Nm of torque at 8,000rpm – the highest output in its segment, according to Ducati.

The limiter sits at 10,250rpm. That's a proper rev ceiling for a single.

Desmodromic valve timing, two balance countershafts, and liquid cooling keep it smooth. Oil changes are scheduled every 15,000km and valve clearance checks every 30,000km – strong service intervals for a high-performance single.

Light where it counts

The 698 Mono Nera tips the scales at 151kg without fuel. That's a number that changes how a bike feels in the real world – through town, on a b-road, or lifting it out of the garage.

The tubular steel trellis frame keeps things compact, and the geometry matches: a 26.1 degree rake and 108mm trail give it the sharp, responsive steering motard riders expect.

Suspension and brakes

Up front, a fully adjustable Marzocchi upside-down fork with 45mm aluminium stanchions handles the steering end. It weighs just 8.1kg and offers 215mm of travel.

At the rear, a Sachs monoshock with progressive linkage and full adjustability takes its cues from off-road design. Wheel travel measures 240mm.

Braking comes via a 330mm front disc – the same diameter as the Panigale V4 – paired with a Brembo M4.32 calliper and radial master cylinder. The rear runs a 245mm disc. Both ends feature Bosch Cornering ABS, which factors in lean angle for more confident braking mid-corner.

Electronics built for the real world

The 698 Mono Nera carries a full electronics package drawn from the Panigale V4 programme. Four riding modes – Sport, Road, Urban and Wet – adjust the bike's character to suit your conditions.

Standard safety systems include Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Engine Brake Control (EBC), and Ducati Brake Light (DBL). The DQS Up/Down (standard on the Nera) makes quick, clutchless shifts in both directions.

Ducati Power Launch (DPL) is also included for controlled, repeatable starts.

Display and practicalities

The 3.8-inch LCD instrument panel uses Improved Black Nematic (IBN) technology, giving white characters on a black background for strong contrast in any light. Gear shift and rev limiter indicators are included, as they are on the Panigale V4.

The 12-litre tank is modest, but it suits the bike's character – the 698 Mono is built for engagement, not long-distance touring.

Wheels are lightweight five-spoke Y-design alloys shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres: 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 160/60 ZR17 at the rear.

The Nera meets Euro 5+ emissions standards with a CO₂ figure of 112g/km and fuel consumption of 4.8l/100km.

Seat height stands at 904mm, with a low seat accessory reducing that to 889mm, or 849mm when combined with a low suspension kit – both available through Ducati's accessories programme.
