Geely Auto is the latest brand to join forces with award-winning automotive retailer Vertu Motors following the opening of the Vertu Geely Glasgow South dealership in the Darnley area of the city.

One of the world’s fastest growing automotive brands, Geely Auto only launched in the UK in late 2025, but has already made a big impression with its inaugural offering, the all-electric Geely EX5 family SUV.

Now, with its second model – the Geely Starray EM-i – launching to coincide with the firm’s new partnership with Vertu, it’s time to take a closer look at its acclaimed line-up of models.

The Geely EX5 electric SUV may be entering a crowded marketplace but it arrives with multiple unique selling points to give it an edge on its competition.

For one, the EX5 has been designed as a family-oriented SUV from the outset with class-leading interior space, the upright design allowing for plenty of head and legroom, as well as a bright airy cabin.

Indeed, the interior is a sumptuous place to spend time thanks to a high-tech dashboard dominated by 15.4-inch display that houses myriad infotainment options, while the ambience is enhanced by having 256-colour* cabin lighting choices at your fingertips (*Max trim only).

Standard kit is a strong suit across the entire range, which is split into three trim levels – EX5 SE, EX5 PRO and EX5 MAX.

With the base EX5 SE slipping in below £32,000*, specification across the entire range includes 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels, online navigation, keyless entry/go, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, privacy glass and heated front seats/steering wheel.

On the road, the EX5 gets its all-electric power from a 60.2kWh battery that generates swift acceleration with 215bhp on tap but still returns between 255-267-miles of range on a combined cycle. A 30-80% recharge will take just 20-minutes.

As well as being spacious and refined, the EX5 makes for a safe family prospect with its maximum five-star EuroNCAP rating.

VERDICT: The Geely EX5 looks extraordinary value-for-money with its sub-£32,000 price tag and a vast standard equipment list, all wrapped in a comfortable, spacious and safe electric SUV package that’ll achieve more than 250-miles of range.

The newest member of Geely Auto UK’s range, the Geely Starray EM-i offers many of the strengths exhibited by its EX5 sibling but comes with the added flexibility of a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Once again, family-friendly value-for-money is front and centre for the Starray EM-i with its temptingly low prices – below £30,000* for the PRO trim – complemented by a lengthy kit list that includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlight and heated/electrically adjustable front seats.

However, it is the Starray EM-i’s frugal, penny-pinching hybrid powertrain that stars here, not least when paired with its excellent value price tag.

Starting with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, you then have the choice to pair it with either an 18.4kWh (Pro and Max trim levels) or 29.8kWh battery (Ultra trim level).

The input of the 18.4kWh battery allows for more than 50-miles of driving on electric power only, which overall will return impressive fuel economy at 117mpg too.

However, opt for the larger 29.8kWh battery and electric-only range increases to 84-miles, while also raising fuel economy to over 200mpg. This means a total combined range (fuel and electric) of over 600-miles.

Better yet, the Starray EM-i is larger than the vast majority of models in its price bracket, with capacious interior room for up to five people, while it comes with a massive 528-litre boot as well.

VERDICT: The Geely Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid makes the perfect companion for those who need space for the whole family but can take advantage of the low running costs that come with completing journeys only on electric power.
