What Can You Manage in Your Motability Scheme Online Account?

Your Motability Scheme online account puts you in control of your lease from wherever you are.

From adding a driver to updating your address, you can handle most of the day-to-day admin without picking up the phone.

Here's a refresher on what you can do online and how to get started if you haven't set up your account yet.

Adding or changing your drivers

The Motability Scheme covers up to three named drivers on your car or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) lease.

Each driver needs a valid driving licence and must meet the Scheme's insurance provider's eligibility criteria.

You can add your drivers when you first apply, or at any point during your lease.

To make a change, sign in to your Motability Scheme online account and head to the 'Insurance cover' section. You'll need each driver's licence number, date of birth and details of any motoring convictions.

The insurance provider will need the new driver's details, and a confirmation letter will be sent to you once the change is complete.

The vehicle must be used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person but that person doesn't need to be in the car for every journey or listed as a driver.

Only drivers named on the Certificate of Motor Insurance are covered to drive the vehicle.

If you'd rather make the change by phone, you can call 0300 037 3737. The new driver will need to be available to speak with the insurance provider during the call.

You can find out more about named drivers on the Motability Scheme on the official Motability website.

Open insurance policies

If you receive 24-hour paid care, or live in a residential care home, nursing home or school, you may be eligible for an open insurance policy.

WAV customers who need multiple drivers to support their care needs can also qualify.

Open policies are useful when several carers need access to the vehicle. Drivers must hold a full UK or EU licence, with no at-fault accidents in the last three years and no motoring convictions in the last five years.

To discuss an open policy, contact the Scheme's insurance provider directly.

What else can you do online?

Managing your drivers is just one of the things your Motability Scheme online account can help with.

You can update your address, phone number and email at any time. Adding or changing your bank details means payments like the Good Condition Payment or End of Contract Payment reach you faster - straight to your account rather than by cheque.

When you're ready to order your next vehicle, you can start a new application online and work through it at your own pace. Once you've applied, the account lets you track progress and view your PIN when it's time to collect.

Insurance is handled through the account as well. If you need to register an incident, you can report it online at a time that suits you and track the claim afterwards.

You can also book a Kwik Fit appointment, request your V5C, apply for a lease extension, add a personalised number plate and change your managing dealer, all without a phone call.

Keeping your details up to date

Your account is also the place to manage your nominees, who are the people you've authorised to deal with the Scheme on your behalf.

Keeping your details current helps everything run more smoothly, from receiving important documents to making sure the right people can contact you about your lease.

How to set up your account

Creating a Motability Scheme online account takes just a few minutes. You'll need your National Insurance number, date of birth and a few other personal details so the Scheme can verify your identity.

If you're an appointee, you'll need your own details plus the National Insurance number of the person receiving the allowance.

Once your account is set up, you can log in any time using your email address and password.

You can create your Motability Scheme online account on the Motability website, or speak to a colleague at your local Vertu dealership for help getting started.

Powered wheelchair and scooter customers

The online account isn't only for car customers. If you lease a powered wheelchair or scooter through the Motability Scheme, you can now view your insurance details, manage claims, check your lease dates and access breakdown support, all through your account.
